Ma bando alle ciance e partiamo subito con la recensione vera e propria. Rumorismi digitali, suggestivi campionamenti di sapore teatrale, plumbee ambientazioni sonore ed implacabili ritmi marziali che avanzano minacciosi come martelli giganti, sono gli elementi chiave che caratterizzano questa oscura gemma di dark-wave, ove i sintetizzatori intessono atmosfere gotiche che si fondono alla perfezione con la carismatica ed inquietante voce di Peter Spilles, capace di catalizzare l’attenzione in ogni dannato solco di questo bellissimo disco.
Composto da tredici tracce, che scorrono piacevolmente come fluttuanti sogni elettrici, “Dream, Tiresias!” apre le danze (espressione quanta mai appropriata) con “If I Could”, prima canzone o meglio primo impeccabile episodio di questo eccitante viaggio onirico. Non è da meno la successiva “Nasty Habit”, che e ci conquista immediatamente con la sua frenetica ricetta electro-dance in salsa industrial, dove ci appare ben chiaro che non possiamo più esimerci dal prendere parte alle oscure danze digitali.
In “The Tide”, terzo “sogno” del disco, gli scenari onirici, generati dal sapiente lavoro dei sintetizzatori, si sposano alla perfezione con i ritmi delle fabbriche, garantendo così una grande fluidità nell’ascolto che ci riporta ai leggendari anni Ottanta, età mitica in cui le “macchine” lavoravano incessantemente per regalarci sogni ed emozioni sintetiche. Segue a ruota “Promises”, che con passo marziale ci coinvolge nei suoi monolitici ritmi ossessivi, mentre la successiva “An End” ci regala un inaspettato coro angelico che ci risolleva gli animi, nonostante le viscere restino ancora incastrate nel complicato groviglio dei suoi ingranaggi ritmici.
Suggestivi canti gregoriani caratterizzano “Your God”, sesto “sogno” dell’album, che marcia con la stessa precisione maniacale di un orologio meccanico. «Here’s the pain that you can feel!», esclama Spilles in “Feel”, solco successivo che parte in sordina e sale man mano sino a toccare picchi che oserei definire apocalittici: non è un caso, dunque, che il brano sia stato selezionato dalla band tedesca come singolo che anticipasse l’uscita di “Dream, Tiresias!”. Segue poi “Full Of Life”, ottavo episodio onirico dal titolo quanto mai perfetto per una canzone del genere, dove la nuda e cruda energia del ritmo dà sfogo a tutta la sua incontenibile forza, mentre le tastiere accennano semplici e suggestive note che evocano dimensioni in bilico tra il sogno e la realtà, e che curiosamente ci riportano alla mente l’indimenticabile colonna sonora di Suspiria firmata da Simonetti e soci.
Esasperando a livello ritmico la formula musicale proposta nei “sogni” precedenti, la seguente “Darkness” si “aggiudica” sicuramente il titolo di canzone più grintosa dell’intero album, ma il sogno non può durare per sempre, ed eccoci dunque giunti alle solenni e misteriose atmosfere di “Passion”, ultimo e decimo episodio del disco, seguito dal trittico di remix del brano “Feel!” (firmato da prestigiosi nomi del settore) al quale spetta l’ingrato compito di porre fine alle frenetiche danze oniriche.
Prima di salutare Morfeo e tornare così alla dura realtà, tengo però a precisare che anche se si dovesse sentire la mancanza di una hit spacca tutto del calibro di “I Live Your Dream”, “Timekiller” e “Steelrose”, i Project Pitchfork dimostrano chiaramente ai propri detrattori di essere in forma smagliante, e lo fanno con questo elegante ed energico album che piacerà senz’altro anche a chi è poco avvezzo nel masticare oscuri ciarpami industriali.

A lot of time has gone since the Project Pitchfork had begun their gradual and deserved rise to success, evident result of their innate talent that has conferred them an important role in the dark-wave scene of the Nineties. And still today, after almost twenty years from their record debut, it’s a pleasure to realize that the historical teutonic band has still got their traditional gothic charm, making this concept-album titled “Dream, Tiresias!”, where the main subject is the oneiric dimension.
But nevermind the chats and let’s start with the review! Gloomy atmospheres, digital noises, suggestive samples and implacable martial rhythms that march like giant hammers, are the elements which characterize this obscure gem of dark-wave, where the synthesizers weave gothic atmospheres which amalgamate themselves with the charismatic Peter Spilles’ voice that catalyzes our attention in every damned track of this amazing record.
Made of thirteen tracks, that run nicely like flying electric dreams, “Dream, Tiresias!” opens the dances with “If I Could”, first impeccable episode of this excitant oneiric journey. The next track “Nasty Habit” catches us immediately with its frenetic electro-dance formula in industrial sauce, where it’s pretty clear that we can’t resist anymore to join to these macabre digital dances. In the song “The Tide”, third “dream” of this album, the oneiric sceneries, generated by the wise work of the synthesizers, marry the factory rhythms, bringing us back to the legendary Eighties, mythical age where the “machineries” worked incessantly to give us dreams and synthetic emotions.
With martial walk, “Promises”, involves us in its monolithic obsessive rhythms, while the successive “An End” gives an unexpected angelical chorus that rises up our souls, tho our guts are still blocked in the complicated tangle of its rhythmical mechanisms. Suggestive gregorian chants characterize the sixth dream, “Your God”, that goes on with the same maniacal precision of a clock.
«Here’s the pain that you can feel!», so Spilles cries out in the song “Feel”, the suggestive next track that rises slowly until it touches apocalyptical peaks, in fact the song has been selected by the german band as single that precedes “Dream, Tiresias!”. The eighth oneiric episode, “Full Of Life”, has the right title for a song like where the naked energy of rhythm spreads all its incontenible power, while the keyboards hint simple and suggestive notes that evoke dimensions between dream and reality, and that curiously recall the unforgettable soundtrack of “Suspiria” (a Dario Argento’s horror movie) signed by the legendary italian band Goblin.
Exasperating rhythmically the musical formula proposed in the previous songs, “Darkness” conquers the title of the most powerful track of the whole album, but the dream can’t last forever and here is the solemn and mysterious atmosphere of “Passion”, latest and tenth track of this wonderful CD, followed by the triptych of “Feel!” remixes (firmed by prestigious names) that has ungrateful task to end these frenetic oneiric dances.
Before saying goodbye to Morpheus and coming back to the hard reality, I have to underline that even if you could miss hits such as “I Live Your Dream”, “Timekiller” and “Steelrose”, the Project Pitchfork shows clearly to its detractors to be in good shape with this elegant and vibrant album that will be loved even by who isn’t used to listen to these obscure industrial scrap-irons.
